คำนาม (Noun)

คำนาม คือ คำที่ใช้เรียกคน สัตว์ สิ่งต่างๆ สถานที่ คุณสมบัติ สภาพ อาการ การกระทำ ความคิด ความรู้สึก ทั้งที่มีรูปร่างให้มองเห็น และไม่มีรูปร่าง

ประเภทของคำนาม (Noun and Types of Noun)
การจัดประเภทของคำนาม จะแบ่งออกเป็น 8 ประเภท (ตามเนื้อหาในหลักสูตร) คือ
Common Nounสามานยนาม
Proper Nounวิสามานยนาม
Collective Nounสมุหนาม
Material Nounวัตถุนาม
Abstract Nounอาการนาม
Noun Equivalentสมมูลย์นาม
Compound Nounนามผสม
Agent Nounนามแสดงความเป็นผู้กระทำ

บน youtube มี video หลากหลายมากที่สอนเกี่ยวกับคำนาม ผมได้นำบ่างส่วนที่เกี่ยวกับเนื้อหามาลงให้ดูกัน video เหล่านี้สอนเกี่ยวกับคำนามและผู้สอนเป็นชาวต่างประเทศสอนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ข้อดีคือเราจะได้ฝึกฟังภาษาอังกฤษไปด้วยเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับคำนามไปในตัวด้วย that kill two birds with a single stone, right?    ;-)

จากคำถาม คำตอบที่มีให้เลือก คือ article a, an, the และไม่เติมอะไรเลยเลย
official เป็นคำนาม แปลว่าพนักงาน ซึ่งเป็น common noun คือไม่ได้บอกจำเพาะเจาะจง ซึ่ง article ที่ใช้ได้ก็คือ a และ the แต่ official ขึ้นต้าคำด้วยสระ ดังนั้น

คำตอบที่ถูกก็คือ 2) an
His wife is an official.

frank เป็นได้ทั้ง noun, verb และ adjective 

frank ในกรณีที่เป็น คำนาม (noun) แปลว่า
An official mark or signature on a letter or parcel, esp. to indicate that postage has been paid or does not need to be paid.
ตราประทับแสดงการยกเว้นการชำระค่าแสตมป์

frank ในกรณีที่เป็น คำกริยา (verb) แปลว่า
To print a sign on an envelope showing that the cost of sending it has been paid
ประทับตราให้ผ่านโดยไม่ต้องชำระค่าผ่าน

frank ในกรณีที่เป็น คำคุณศัพท์(adjective) แปลว่า
Honest and truthful 
ด้วยใจจริง ซึ่งคำนามในความหมายนี้คือ frankness 

frankly เป็นกริยาวิเศษ (adverb) แปลว่า
In an open, honest, and direct manner
อย่างตรงไปตรงมา

ในประโยคนี้เราต้องการกิริยาวิเศษ (adverb) มาขยายคำว่า talk ซึ่งจาก คำตอบ frankly เป็นคำเดียวที่เป็น adverb

ดังนั้นคำตอบที่ถูกต้องที่สุดคือ คำตอบ ข้อ 2) frankly

คำตอบ ข้อ 3 hers

 ข้อ 1) my, 2) your 3) her เป็น possessive adjective pronoun ซึ่งต้องนำไปขยาย noun โดยไปอยู่หน้าคำนามที่มันไปขยาย (modify) คำตอบ 1, 3 และ 4 จึงนำมาใช้ในโครงสร้างนี้ไม่ได้

ส่วนคำตอบที่ 3 hers เป็น possessive pronoun เหมือน mine ในประโยคแรก ใช้เป็น direct object [predicate nominative)

ถ้าเขียนประโยคนี้อีกแบบหนึ่งโดยใช้ possessive adjective pronoun จะได้

That is not my fridge; it's her fridge.

Language Tips

fridge = refrigerator แปลว่า ตู้เย็น

คำจำดักความ หรือ definition ของมันจาก Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English ก็ คือ
A large piece of electrical kitchen equipment, used for keeping food and drinks cool.


อีกคำหนึ่งคือ คำว่า freeze แปลว่าตู้เย็นก็ได้เหมือนกัน ในกรณีที่เป็นภาษาอังกฤษแบบ อังกฤษ (British English)  ถ้าเป็น American English จะแปลว่าตู้ freeze ซึ่ง British English ใช้คำว่า freezer compartment.
